Tumble dryers are probably the most energy hungry of all domestic appliances. To dry a full load of washing will cost in the region of £0.385 (0.9kg) , therefore the less you use it the more money you will save. A myth regarding turning on and off fluorescent lights became apparent to me in conversation with a PhD Chemist from Liverpool a few years ago. This particular chap happily declared that to save energy he keeps all his fluorescent light on all the time.  This cannot be correct I thought.
